The Occupied Territories: Israel has started yesterday a new right wing era with the appointment of Benyamin Netanyahu as prime minister of the new cabinet that started its first day with withdrawing from one of the most important peace treaties, when fanatical Foreign Affairs Minister Ividgor Lieberman refused to abide by the Annapolis conference agreements that was signed in the United States towards the end of 2007. He also refused to give back the Syrian Golan Heights.
But Lieberman, the right wing extremist, at the same time flirted with Egypt, describing it is an important partner to Israel, being a prominent country important to regional stability.
In unexpected statements, he called for exchanging visits of Egyptian and Israeli officials, in an effort to ease the impact of what he has said against Egypt about threatening to bomb the Aswan high dam and his comment on President Mubarak refusing to visit Israel, saying: “Let him go to hell,”.
Lieberman’s refusal of the Annapolis conference, where the Israeli and Palestinian parties agreed under American sponsorship to resume peace talks and to oblige to the road map stopping settlements and working towards a Palestinian state, came hours after Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu was sworn in. He said the Annapolis agreements are no longer valid, but his government only recognizes the road map.
