Dat ligt bij de islam anders. De theorie van de islam heeft bepaald dat uittreden uit de islam een misdaad is, en dat die misdaad met de doodstraf hoort te worden bestraft. In de praktijk komt dit er op neer dat "uittreden niet kan". In streng-islamitische landen als Iran en Saoedi-Arabië zit de vork natuurlijk anders in de steel, maar we hebben het nu even over het vrije Westen waar wie uit zijn godsdienst uittreedt door de wetten des lands beschermd wordt, en als hij of zij in de Tweede Kamer zit, ook daadwerkelijk beveiligd.
Natuurlijk staat het de leiders van de moslims in Nederland vrij om te bepalen dat uittreden niet kan, maar er is geen enkele reden waarom ook de Nederlandse overheid dit religieus bepaalde standpunt zou moeten onderschrijven en er bij haar beleid rekening mee zou moeten houden. De regels van de islamitische godsdienst kunnen toch voor de overheid van een modern Westers land niet bindend worden verklaard? De regels van andere godsdiensten trouwens ook niet. En dan, wie bepaalt welke van de regels van de islam voor de Nederlandse overheid bindend zijn en hoe die regels luiden? Hoe ver wil de overheid hier gaan? Heeft het Nederlands parlement ooit goedgekeurd dat de Nederlandse overheid een aantal regels van de sharia, bijvoorbeeld die over uittreding, heeft te gehoorzamen? (De sharia is de traditionele islamitische wet).
Door de islamitische opvattingen over uittreding uit de islam stilzwijgend te accepteren, handelt de Nederlandse overheid, buiten het parlement om, op een wijze die in strijd is met de bepalingen over godsdienstvrijheid van de Nederlandse grondwet. Eigenlijk maakt de Nederlandse overheid zich hier naar de eigen normen ook nog schuldig aan iets anders, te weten een subtiele vorm van discriminatie, door de moslims niet in staat te achten zichzelf te tellen, en de katholieken wel. Er is ook geen reden te bedenken waarom zelftelling door moslims niet mogelijk zou zijn. Er zijn duizenden islamitische liefdadige stichtingen en verenigingen in Nederland. De lijsten bij de Kamers van Koophandel zijn onoverzichtelijk lang. Daaruit blijkt zonneklaar dat wat betreft kennis van het Nederlandse systeem van organiseren en dingen regelen de Nederlandse moslims, althans hun elite, beslist niet meer in een achterstandssituatie verkeren.
Van de katholieken eisen dat ze zelf tellen, en van de moslims niet, dat is het meten met twee maten – wat zoals bekend volgens bijbel en koran de Heer een gruwel is.
