US voices full-throated support for Israel

Washington has thrown its full-throated support behind Israel even after the regime launched a deadly assault on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla aid convoy.

Despite international condemnation of the assault, the US refused to denounce the tragic incident, which left at least 20 activists dead and more than 40 others injured.

Undersecretary of Defense Michele Flournoy said Thursday the White House has had a "deep and binding interest in Israel's security across years, across administrations, since the country's founding."

"And that is not going to change anytime soon," she was quoted as saying by AFP.

About May 31 attack against the international aid convoy, the Pentagon official said the investigation should be "in a way that is not undermining" Israeli security.

The Israeli commandos stormed the Freedom Flotilla, which was carrying thousands of tons of supplies to the besieged people of Gaza, who have been in virtual prison for three years.

Many US lawmakers have expressed strong support for Washington's staunchest Middle East ally since the assault.

On Wednesday, Republican US Senator John Cornyn unveiled a resolution fully supporting the recent Israeli attack.
